Nehemiah is a great story of unity!
We saw in Nehemiah 4:9 that after the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt the enemy
became very angry and “conspired together to come and to fight against
Jerusalem, to hinder it.” Nehemiah 4:14 says, “But we prayed to our God
and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.” THEY PRAYED for
PROTECTION but also POSTED A GUARD.
In v. 14 Nehemiah said to the people “Remember the LORD, which is great and
terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your
wives, and your houses.”
And the people did what Nehemiah instructed and the enemy was defeated! WE
MUST GO TO PRAYER, but WE MUST ALSO ACT!
When we are in unity with Jesus – the joy of Jesus is our strength!
In 1 John 1:1-7 the Apostle John says, “We proclaim to
you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And
our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to
make our joy complete.” ONLY JESUS CAN GIVE THAT JOY!
WHO WAS THIS JOHN? John was a fisherman! He describes himself as “the disciple
that Jesus loved.” He walked with Jesus for 3 years, sees and hears everything Jesus did
and said: healings, multiplication of loaves and fishes, the dead raised! He was part of the inner circle on the Mount talking with Moses and Elijah. He saw Jesus crucified and die.
It was John who ran to the tomb… and saw that the body was not there! John wrote a
Gospel on LOVE and three epistles on “this so great a salvation” delivered and spoken
by Jesus.
We don’t want to miss out on what God wants us to do! NEVER GIVE GOD THE
LESS! Let us get on board as in the days of Nehemiah! It’s time for us to get on the
wall!
