THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD

Highlights from Pastor Rick Schofield’s message on Sunday, June 30.

“… to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God—” (John 1:12) In order to believe you have to have faith in God.

 BELIEF, FAITH and COMMITMENT all go together!  Over and over in scripture God shows His faithfulness. “God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Cor. 1:9).

God honors His Word.  He does what He says He is going to do. God looks after us! We all sin every day in some way.  God is there to direct, guide and protect us.  If you want the blessings of God in your life – start with faithfulness. Be faithful in little things - a person who can be counted on. (Prov. 25:19) 

In the early church God chose only faithful men to be deacons – men He knew could be depended upon. We need faithful people to care for the Church – ones who do what is right for God. Like the two faithful servants in the parable of the talents. When we are done here on earth we want to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matt 25:14-30)

WHAT IS FAITH? “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1).

“While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18)

Faith is believing for things we cannot see. You may not see it, but you know that God is working. Faith is trusting God and His Word.

In Hebrews 11 we read where “by faith” Able, Enoch, Noah, Abraham Sarah, Moses, Isaac, Jacob & Joseph obeyed God and “received a good testimony” (v.39);  for “without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Heb 11:6).

“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth” (V. 13).

That’s the kind of faith we need to see in the Church today. They were committed! By faith we can do whatever God asks us to do.  We need to be an example – to our children, to our neighbours. When they see that God comes first in our lives and that we are blessed it will cause them to want what we have.
